Ali Zafar returns as Ghalib in next video
Ali Zafar has already enthralled us with his versatility in latest Jazz Ad and now we’ll be seeing him in Ghalib’s role in his latest video ‘Jee Dhondta Hai’, which is all set to release on June 23.
The song features Mirza Ghalib’s poetry, which is believed to be written for a prostitute. The video is a symbolic journey from physical relationships to a spiritual one, in which Ali Zafar plays the role of pimp. The video talks about the concepts of self-discovery, physical death and spiritual death. Besides, water is also used as another major symbol of purification.
All in all, the video is brimming with symbolic meanings, which itself becomes a manifestation of Ghalib’s poetry, working symbolically on many different levels.
The director of the video, Abdullah Haris said, “I was willing to do this video for Ali Zafar because he has a very versatile personality.” The six-and-a-half minute long video was shot in two days, and features Ali Zafar in the role of pimp and Slackistan actress, Aisha Linnea Akhtar in the female lead role.
Talking about Aisha’s role, Zafar said, “We wanted her to look torn, broken, emotionally drenched and suicidal in most of the scenes. I think she was in agony during the shoot!”
He added, “It was a difficult task to reflect Ghalib’s poetry in a music video. We hope we did it justice.”
